A (tiny) bit of progress...
... on the film short. Seth and I have discussed at least the direction we're heading. A sort of psychological thriller with a supernatural edge, maybe if Christopher Nolan wrote and directed a movie after reading The Monkey's Paw. We're trying to root the supernatural bit in something already existing, like witchcraft or the fakir in the Monkey's Paw to avoid overwrought explanations of the "why" in such a short form. The conclusion of our story has more or less been decided, it's the whole middle thing we have to deal with. You know...plot development and the like. Working on this reminds me of high school English class and five page essays on Hamlet. You've got a lot to say, not a lot of space to say it. Be concise, but leave the art intact. Introduce nothing you can't explore fully and move on from quickly.

An introduction...
...of sorts. Perhaps, first, an explanation. This blog is being written mainly to help keep myself accountable to myself. My hope is that by making public the progress I've made on my endeavors for personal improvement and passions, I will be continually motivated to...continue. The problem is thus: With the so widely varied interests I have, maintaining focus on one in particular is next to impossible. Hence, the title of the blog. It comes from a Kerouac quote in On the Road:
I suppose that is the center of this whole thing. It is entirely possible that I will fail to keep up with this, as I believe many have before. So I will start as best and completely as I can, with goals large and small.
I want to...
...build a fixed gear bicycle.
...complete production on a short film.
...actually write the script to a collection of horror shorts.
...produce the pilot episode of an original radio play/podcast.
...finish writing several original songs to perform on stage at least once.
...learn to walk on my hands.
...improve my diet and exercise regimen and hold to it.
...complete a sort of sound pastiche of Murfreesboro, to be titled I Make Candy in the South, for reasons that will not become totally clear.
...turn an old television into a sculpture
...host a number of previously discussed beer, wine, and liquor tastings.
...try a week of eating on just $3 (or possibly less) a day.
...learn to juggle.
I'll call that a start.
“I like too many things and get all confused and hung-up running from one falling star to another till i drop. This is the night, what it does to you. I had nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion.”
